Tom Petrongolo founded PJ Thomas Homes with more than a decade of hands-on experience in residential construction across Melbourne. Under his direction, the business has been recognised with four Housing Industry Association (HIA) Awards, including HIA Victorian Home of the Year for the Brighton Residence project. Tom is a licensed building practitioner in Victoria, licensed and eligible to undertake residential building projects valued up to $2,000,000. Tom personally oversees every PJ Thomas Homes project from initial consultation through to handover.

What does the knockdown rebuild process involve?
A knockdown rebuild involves demolishing an existing home and constructing a new one on the same block. PJ Thomas Homes manages the entire process — demolition approvals, council planning and building permits, services disconnection/reconnection, and full construction — from a single point of contact, so clients don't need to coordinate separate contractors themselves.
Do I need a building permit for a renovation or extension?
In most cases, yes — Victorian councils require a building permit for structural renovations, extensions, and second-storey additions, and planning permits may also be needed depending on overlays (heritage, neighbourhood character, tree protection) that apply to the property.
